  1. INTRODUCTION

The Chubb’s Peterson Invitational (CPI) was created as a means of bringing together a very special group of people. It is well documented that these people are not golfers with drinking problems, but drinkers with a golfing problem. This competition has been designed in a way that enables these people to share their problems, and talents, with others of a similar mindset. Despite the lack of golfing talent, many have been spotted looking on in awe of the spectacle that the CPI players create. It could be argued that this monthly spectacle will one day be considered a modern-day mystery, with no-one able to explain how people with such levels of intoxication, are not only able to connect club to ball, but actually improve as the round continues.

  • COMPETITION ENTRY

The CPI is open to any who wish to enter. The competition will take place once per month at a course previously decided by the brain trust. It often gets boozy, so if you’re not a big drinker, you are still most welcome, but be prepared to help some people stand on the back 9.

  • THE BRAIN TRUST

The brain trust is made up of long-standing members that are committed to the league. These members discuss issues and decide on things as a committee. Current brain trust members are:

Luke Walker – Chubbs chair

Terry Madill – Chubbs scramble chair

Spencer Duncan – Co-chair

Mark Thompson – Co-chair

Kasper Sonesson – Golfing advisor

Jack Sanders – Quota hire

Ryan Nimmo – We needed someone sensible

  • HANDICAPS
  • General

Handicaps must be agreed for each player 1 week prior to Tee-off. To be accepted, more than half of the field of play must agree to a players’ handicap before they can use it. Handicaps are used to level the playing field amongst all entrants and to make the results as even as possible.

To calculate an accurate handicap a player should average the best 5 round scores from their previous 20. If a player does not have 20 rounds recorded it can be the best score from their previous 5 rounds.

If this is still not possible then their handicap choice will be put to the other competition entrants to decide on one that is extremely challenging for the player, but still achievable.

New entries maximum handicap for males is 28 for vagina people 36. After the 1st round handicaps will be adjusted per final scores.

3.2 Handicap adjustments.

Following a competition, handicaps will be adjusted according to players’ final stable ford points scores. Players with the scores below will get the aligned handicap adjustment:

  • >45 points = -3
  • 41-45 points = -2
  • 36-40 points = -1
  • 27-35 points = no adjustment
  • 16-26 points = +1
  • <15 points = +2
  • If a player has a zero total from their previous round due to a lost scorecard, although they will be awarded the clown jacket, no handicap adjustment will be made.
  • COMPETITION REGULATIONS:

4.1 Registration:

  1. All players must be registered to play at least 14 days before the event.
  2. All players must pay the competition fee no later than 7 days prior to the event but it is preferred 14 days prior or earlier.

4.2 Withdrawal:

  1. Players registered and paid that withdraw before 7 days of competition will receive a full refund.
  2. Players that are registered and paid but withdraw after the within 7 days of the competition will be refunded as much as possible, but this is dependent on the fees that have already been used for awards and prizes.
  3. Players that withdraw with less than 24 hours remaining until tee time will receive no refund. This is most commonly known as “doing a Terry”.

4.3 Expected attire:

  1. Players must wear appropriate golfing attire.
  2. Any player that wears a thong as their underwear for the entire round will be rewarded with -1 stoke from their final score on each S.I. holes of 17 and 18. Women included but must provide clear and extensive evidence.
  3. Players should wear an official CPI T-shirt to play, if it is not worn then this player should finish 1 x drink of their choice on the first T box before start of play. Non-drinkers doing this wouldn’t make anyone angry, just disappointed.
  • COMPETITION RULES:

5.1 Stable ford scoring:

The number of points awarded on each hole is determined by the number of strokes taken to par before being adjusted in relation to the player’s handicap.

To do this, it involves taking a look at the stroke index on the scorecard.

For example, a player with a handicap of eight will be afforded an extra shot on the holes that have a stroke index of one to eight. A 24-handicapper, meanwhile, would get two extra strokes on holes with a stroke index of one to six and one extra shot on those with a stroke index of seven to 18.

So, if a hole is a par-5 with a stroke index of eight, our eight-handicapper would get one extra stroke (par-6) and our 24-handicapper would get two (par-7).

On your score card you should write in your gross score, the real amount of strokes you took to complete the hole. On the line below you should write your net score, this is your gross score minus the additional strokes awarded for your handicap.

Example scenario: a 12-handicapper is playing the 7th hardest hole on the course (par 4) and shoots a 5 (Bogie). The gross score they record is 5, the net score is 4. Net par (2 points)

4 points – Two strokes under (Eagle)
• 3 points – One stroke under (Birdie)
• 2 points – Level par (par)
• 1 point – One stroke over (Bogie)
• 0 points – Two strokes or more over (Double bogie / blob)

5.2 Picking up your ball:

If you do what is now commonly referred to as “A Spenny” then you should record the score as:

Par 3’s – Gross 7

Par 4’s – Gross 8

Par 5’s – Gross 10

This is to make sure that you do not score any points on this hole.

5.3 Preferred lie:

  1. If a player is in a bit of a tricky situation where they would benefit from a preferred lie, this must be agreed by at least 1 of their group members and said player must drink a minimum of 2 fingers of a boozy drink before moving the ball. Not available for non-drinkers, tough shit.
  2. The ball can then be moved a maximum distance of half a putter’s length from where it is but not to a different playing surface.

5.4 Mulligan’s:

  1. All players will be allowed to use a mulligan on the 1st T-box (breakfast ball).

5.5 Hazards:

  1. Not if, but when, your ball goes into a hazard, you must take a 1 stroke penalty and place it into the appropriate drop zone or at the closest point to the course where the ball left the course.
  2. You must take a 1-shot penalty to place a ball back on the course.
  3. If this results in, you being close to another player’s ball then you are officially advised to play a closest to pin challenge from that spot with the loser doing a fine of your choice.

5.6 Out of bounds/hazard from the tee-box:

  1. If your tee shot is a lost ball, then you have a choice. You may either drop the ball as advised above and take your next shot as your 3rd or take no penalty but play a 2nd shot from the tee box.
  2. This is different to regular rules where, where you would ordinarily take your 3rd from the tee.
  3. The idea behind this rule change is to encourage players to take an extra shot from the T until they hit it in bounds, this gives you a more realistic hole and helps you improve your game.
  4. If you lose your ball again, you can then take another shot from the tee as your 3rd, and so on.
  5. If you lose your 1st ball but then hit worse with your 2nd, you cannot drop from your 1st OB. As soon as you hit the 2nd one, the 1st one is deleted from history.

5.7 Provisional tee-shot:

If you think your ball is lost but are unsure, you can take a provisional tee shot. If you find your first ball then you MUST play the first ball and just pick up your provisional ball.

If you cannot find your first ball then you play your second ball, but remember that this was now your 2nd shot from the tee.

5.8 Tie breakers:

At the end of a round, if 2 or more people have the same number of points, the winner will be chosen according to the following order:

  1. If it’s your birthday weekend.
  2. If you just became a parent within the last week.
  3. If you recently got married. (1 week)
  4. Countback from the 18th hole.
  5. Lowest handicap

6.5 The Monthly Meltdown

Anyone that is considered to have a bit of a meltdown at the venue triggered by typical golf rage, will be awarded the monthly meltdown award. Their name will live in memory as someone that threw a tantrum at a Chubbs event and their name will be written on the melted trophy. You also need to finish a drink in the clubhouse.

*Special Chubb’s addition: If you and a teammates ball are every within 2 clubs lengths of each other and the green is in range, you must play a closest to pin challenge with the loser drinking half of a full alcoholic beverage. If the loser is a non-drinker, the winner drinks it instead. If both are non-drinkers, tell Diego at the end of the round and he can drink for both of you.

  • The individual Jacket competition
  • The golden jacket

The golden jacket winner will be the person with the most stableford points at the end of the round. You will forever be remembered as a true champion of men!

If present, you will be presented with the golden jacket by previous months winner.

  • The clown jacket (The honest golfer award)

The clown jacket will go the person with the fewest stableford points at the end of the round. You are honest, but also a bit shit.

  • Lost scorecard

If a player loses their scorecard and cannot submit this score at the end of the round, they will be awarded zero points and be in contention for the clown jacket. This however will not lead to a handicap adjustment for the following round.

  • The 3-time winner:

If you win the jacket competition 3 times within the same 10-month jacket season. You will be presented with a tailored golden blazer, embossed with your initials and the competition logo.

  • THE SCRAMBLE

Every month we will have a scramble on the Saturday before the Chubbs on the Sunday. Captains will be chosen according to group handicaps. Each player must use four of their tee shots for the scorecard to be legal. The highest handicaps playing will be the team captains. They will be given a draft order and use a wechat group to draft their teams.

Scramble Rules:

FORMAT: Scramble Tournament

RULES:

  1. A scramble means that all team members tee off on each hole and then decide which tee shot they like the best and mark the spot with a tee or ball marker.
  2. Preferred lie. Team members pick up their balls and place them within one club length (no closer to the hole) of the marked spot. Each team member hits their next shot from the chosen spot of the prior shot.
  3. If the ball you choose to play is in a hazard (sand, water, etc.), rough, or out of bounds, you cannot drop the ball outside of the hazard or rough even if the relief is within one club length away.
  4. This procedure is followed on every shot for the remainder of the hole, including putts. The ball should be marked on the putting green also.
  5. Putts must be made within 3 inches (about a tee length) of the marked spot (no closer to the hole). The first ball to go in the hole is counted for the team score. When putting, once any ball is holed out, no further strokes count. The team is cautioned not to make “tap” in putts until all team members have had the opportunity to attempt the team’s original putt.
  6. Teams must line up their own putts without caddie help.
  7. Teams may not play their second shot off the tee. You may choose to play a third shot off the tee or drop your second ball and hit your third shot in the place where your ball went out of play.
  8. If teams are tied, there will be a countback on the scorecard from the hardest hole to the easiest, as indicated by the stroke index.
  9. Required tee shots from each player:
    1. Team of 4 – 4 tee shots
    1. Team of 3 – 5 tee shots
    1. Team of 2 – 6 tee shots
  10. Rules for teams of 2:
    1. One additional drive each hole, rotate player each hole.
    1. One additional putt each hole, rotate player each hole.
  11. Rules for teams of 3:
    1. One additional putt each hole, rotate player each hole.
  12. A scramble is for fun. Please be honest with your scores.
  13. You are on a team. Please make sure all players feel like a part of it.

Contests:

  1. Shortest drive – TBD
  2. Furthest from the pin – TBD
  3. Shortest missed putt – TBD
  4. Drunkest Golfer – This could be anyone, as long as TJ isn’t there

Dick of the day:

This award goes to someone who has royally embodied a flaccid chode. If a player has been acting a right old dick then we would like to hear the story. The player that is deemed to have been the most of a dick will be awarded the dick of the day award. The decision on who wins this award / punishment, shall be decided by the present members of the brain trust that are playing that weekend, unless a member of the brain trust is under consideration for the award, they will get no input.

Examples of things that could be deemed as satisfying the requirements to win the ‘dick of the day’ award include but are not limited to:

  • Getting us in trouble with the course
  • Being semi, or fully naked on the course
  • Turning up late
  • Hitting a caddy (with fist, balls or clubs)
  • Shouting or screaming at a caddy or fellow player
  • Crashing your golf kart
  • Throwing clubs around a course
  • Being called Aaron

The punishment for being chosen as the dick of the day is:

Right handed players must use the dick putter to putt for the 1st 6 holes of their round on Sunday.

Left handed players must use the mini, childrens putter for the 1st 6 holes of their round on Sunday.

If the player refuses to accept this punishment they will still get their name engraved on the putter but will suffer no further punishment on the day other than their own shame.

If there is no clear candidate for the dick of the day award due to too many players being dicks, they can share the award for the round, if there are no candidates then the award may not be given.

*Alternate options for players can be chosen depending on their behaviour in the build up to and attendance to the CPI.
